iPod Flat Case
After recieving in the mail each christmas and birthday from my uncle an iTunes gift card, i realised that there can be more to a $20 card of music credit included in the package to better sense that you care about what the reciever is interested in.
The idea behing my iPod flat case, is that along with sending your loved ones an itunes gift card, a personalised (by music genre) protective case comes with the card to give the reciever more of a feeling of being understood and known by their relatives, or friends as they have taken interest in what they like instead of just sending a generic card with $20 credit
As shown in the instructions the case and card both pop out of the same piece of A4 EVA foam to be manipulated and folded to create the case.
the case comes in many different styles, depending on different genres of music. some examples are bellow:
These two made from black and white leather are suited to the country music style whereas the designs i made in 3D form are for rave and punk rock genres.
The punk style case features metal stud clips and tartan upholstery to give teenage rock feel.
The rave edition features glow in the dark lining and a glow in the dark laser light pattern on the outside.

Hi there, I really like how you have taken the issue of un thoughtful gift giving to another level by adding a dimension of choice and personalization to the gift bearing process. Further your design is cheap and simple, two elements that the gift barer is looking for if they have just purchased a money certificate. However i wonder whether there is a way you could have designed a case that protects the vitals of the ipod - like its screen. I know that with my ipod the main reason i would use a case is if it helped protect the product as well as aesthetically enhance its looks.
hey tristan, i agree that being able to send a custom case with an iTunes voucher, showing that some thought has been put into the gift, is a good idea and would be quite easy to post (which was the main point of this brief. well done you =) ). however, my concern is how well this case would fit the range of different iPods available today...would there be different sizes to suit different iPods? and also, the issue of screen protection is a biggie. and if the clickwheel is exposed, ie if the iPod was just in a handbag/pocket/etc, would other items rub against it and change the volume/track while it was in use?
ps i pblished that before i'd finished my train of thought. oops. i meant to add that maybe a flap to cover the clickwheel could be incorporated.
Simple yet effective...
I've seen a few of these and even used some, although as katherine mentioned, i'd say you need that little extra bit of protecting the vitals of the screen. I know there are screen protectors to protect minor scratches but in my opinion its not enough.
Your design works good, although that 1 little touch would make it great!
